Frequently asked questions

How do I determine the necessary size of a garage?

The minimum dimensions for a single garage are 12’x20′, and 20’x22′ for a double garage. However, garages are often built larger in order to include more storage space. Make sure you have enough space for your garage to evolve with your needs.

When can I start a garage addition?

Once you’ve obtained your permit and plans, you need to wait for the thaw before starting any construction work. In addition, the concrete must remain at a temperature above 10° for 3 days post-installation. The driest conditions possible are the most ideal.

Do I need a permit to build a garage addition?

Most municipalities require signed plans from a professional (technologist or architect) before issuing a permit for the work. They will verify the size of the structure, the choice of cladding, etc. If you have an existing garage to be demolished before rebuilding the new one, you will also need to obtain a permit for the demolition of an ancillary structure.
