Frequently asked questions

When should brick or stone joints be repaired?

If the mortar joints around your bricks or stones are starting to show signs of wear (brittleness, cracks, fractures, etc.), it’s best to repair them right away because the damage will only get worse as water increasingly infiltrates the mortar or gets behind the wall and goes through bouts of freezing and thawing. Postponing repairs will only make the situation worse and increase the cost of repairs.

What causes a brick wall to bulge?

This is a common masonry problem caused by water seeping into the mortar joins of a brick or stone wall. These infiltrations expand when frozen or cause the anchors to rust, creating bulges in the wall. A mason must be called in to do repairs right away to keep the wall from detaching or collapsing.

Is a masonry house façade a good investment?

In addition to being durable and energy efficient as well as improving a home’s appearance, a masonry façade offers a good return on investment (between 50% and 75%) if it’s well maintained.
