    Rediscover the pleasure of cooking

Isabelle and Mathieu were perfectly happy in their Laval home: a spacious house with a spacious yard, conveniently located in a good neighbourhood. In other words, they were very pleased, with one exception. “We were happy with everything, except for the kitchen, which was really too small,” admits Isabelle. “Many appliances and ingredients were stored in the basement because there wasn’t enough room, which made cooking really unpleasant.”

    Before the Renovation

The kitchen was a small cubic space with only 100 square feet of floor space, limited counter space on which to work and corner cupboards that were difficult to access. “It was so irritating that we thought about selling and buying another house, even though everything else was fine,” says Mathieu. “But when we found out that we could expand, we were delighted to be able to continue living here and decided to move forward.”

    Modern and functional

Thanks to the work of a Verified Contractor from the RenoAssistance network, a modern kitchen that finally meets the homeowner’s needs was created by adding 150 square metres to the foundation and the main floor!  It was a complete overhaul, from the electrical wiring for the recessed lighting to the plumbing for the second sink, as well as the countertops, backsplash, cooktop and under-cabinet oven. The extra space also enabled them to create a private office in the basement. “I stroke the quartz countertop every time I’m in the kitchen,” confides Mathieu. “I just can’t resist!”

    Storage galore

The Verified Contractor optimized the surface area to provide maximum storage space. Two large pantries were installed, creating a discreet, easy-to-reach place to store provisions, crockery, and small appliances. A cozy breakfast nook was also added, sparing the couple and their two children the trouble from stepping on each other’s toes! “The pantry is my personal favourite,” admits Isabelle. “And the pull-out drawers give me easy access to everything.”

    Outstanding support

Isabelle and Mathieu have nothing but praise for the specialists recommended by Youssef Rachidi, the Renovation Advisor in charge of their project. The architectural technologist, the contractor specializing in home expansions and the kitchen designer were all very attentive and professional. The process was a resounding success from start to finish, allowing the owners to enjoy their reimagined home to the fullest!

“With the freezer, cupboards, and pantries on the first floor, everything is within easy reach,” noted the parents. “We’ve rediscovered the pleasure of cooking, and it’s something we can share with our six- and eight-year-olds. We don’t have to tell them to go and play elsewhere, we’ve got plenty of room now!”
